A WOMAN who has led the opposition to a new Tesco store in Brixham has been elected to the town council.
Rosemary Clarke emerged triumphant from yesterday's Brixham Town Council by-election.
Only two candidates put forward their names to contest the Berry Head with Furzeham seat left vacant after Vic Ellery stepped down when he became the director of the charity Brixham Does Care.
Lib Dem Torbay councillor Andrew Baldrey opposed Mrs Clarke, who was one of the founders of the Brixham Residents Against a Tesco Superstore action group.
Mrs Clarke stood as a politically independent candidate under the BRATS banner.
She polled 1,012 votes in yesterday's by-election compared to Mr Baldrey's 892.
