FIREFIGHTERS had a busy night tackling three suspected arson attacks in Torquay.

The outside of a house and a boat were both damaged in separate attacks in the Ellacombe area while a garage was burned to the ground not far away in Thurlow Road.

Fire investigators and police are treating the incidents as arson and have appealed for information from the public.

Firefighters were first called out just after 1am on Thursday, September 20, after reports of a garage on fire.

When they arrived they found the building well alight. Two crews put the blaze out using breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets.

The crew confirmed that the same garage had been hit by a fire back in August and the latest attack had destroyed what remained.

Just over two hours later crews were called out again to Castle Road to deal with a 34ft boat on fire.

The boat was parked in the driveway of a house.

While crews were on their way they received reports of a second blaze in nearby Ash Hill Road.

It involved fencing, rubbish and a cement mixer which were in the garden of a property.

The fire is believed to have started in the garden and spread to the fascia boards of the house. Some windows were also cracked due to the heat.

The crews split their efforts between the two fires putting them out with the help of hose reel jets.

The boat, a fibreglass motor cruiser, was not badly damaged by fire.

Police were also called to the incident. They confirmed an accelerant had been used to set the boat on fire.

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting crime reference FT/12/6788.

Hear, hear...However, sadly the press is probably more use these days, since somebody decided it was a good idea to sack all the experienced police officers and the ones that are left are strongly encouraged to hand out fixed fee penalties or restorative justice (that's usually a sincere and heart felt 'sorry') at every given opportunity so basically its a free for all...and nobody will investigate...but obviously there is much less crime!?!

Cars, Garages, fences, a language school. The fires are into double figure in the Ash Hill Road area in the last 12 months. Arson - brilliant Holmes, I don't think anyone had suspected that. Let's send a bobby on a bicycle around straight away. To the crime scene Watson. No, we are not interested in crime scenes, to the press.

And who is burning the entire contents of houses in Thurlow Road, partition walls, doors, floors, woods, plastics, toxins, in the back gardens?.... pollution.... all day long. Same Road as the garage fire; 1 minute from Ash Hill Road fire... does the council really allow this to happen in broad daylight and not ask any questions. Yes.
