ORIGINAL watercolours by Rick Thorpe are now on show at the Meadfoot Cafe, Torquay.
This venue is apt because many of the pictures are familiar scenes around Meadfoot or nearby — Triangle Rock, East Shag Rock, the shelter and walkers.
Bold use of colour and brushwork depict the varying states of the weather, light, season, and time of day. Meadfoot beach is a favourite swimming spot for the artist much of the year round, and a grey, rainy day is just as real and interesting a subject to paint as a sunny blue-sky day.
Rick is a local artist who works in various media — watercolour, oils, pastel, charcoal — depending on the subject matter and mood.
He trained in fine art at Northampton College of Art, Reading University and Cyprus College of Art and has exhibited at various private galleries in Devon. He has also had a painting exhibited at the Royal Academy in London.
Rick is based at Madryn Studio in Combeinteignhead.
