A BRIXHAM man is in a serious condition in hospital after an assault in the port.
At around 11.25pm on Tuesday officers attended Fore Street, near the ice cream kiosk, where a 59-year-old man had received serious head injuries. He was treated by paramedics at the scene.
He was taken to Torbay Hospital and later transferred to Derriford Hospital, where he remains. Police say he is being treated for serious injuries.
The man, believed to have family in the area, had been drinking in the Blue Anchor pub earlier in the evening, but the assault happened sometime after he left.
Landlady Emma Lopez-Churm said: "He had been drinking in here, but left about an hour before the assault.
"He had not been involved in an argument or anything while in here and I assume he had been waiting for a taxi, but we don't really know.
"We called the police when we were locking up and saw what had happened.
"We are all worried about the man who was hurt and our thoughts are with him."
