A NEW youth theatre company is being launched in South Devon today.

Audra Mitcheson (pictured) has set up DS Youth Theatre Company which involves three-hour sessions every Thursday in the Hex Studios at the Dartington Hall Estate.

After the success of Bling, the pantomime at the Barn Theatre on the estate, Audra realised the youngsters she taught really needed their own company where they could grow as performers.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Brixham-born Audra, who made her debut on the West End stage in Bugsy Malone at the age of 11, said: "I can't wait to start up a youth theatre company, taken from local talent, and create something wonderful.

"Let's create our own theatre, costumes, scenery and devise our own scripts as well as perform old and new theatre pieces."

She said choreographers, singing teachers and professional performers and directors would periodically attend the sessions.

Audra, who has been writing, directing and teaching performing arts for more than 15 years, is currently working on a script with Brian Pattern for the youth company.

DS Youth Theatre Company is for 10 to 18 year olds. Sessions run from 5pm to 8pm and cost £20. For more information call Audra on 07765 003336 or email audramitcheson@dramastanceproductions.com
