THE closing date for the Herald Express English Rivera & South Devon Tourism & Hospitality Awards 2013 has now passed and a shortlist is being prepared and judges will soon carry out 'mystery shopping'.
One of the most hotly-contested categories is Hotel of the Year. This award will recognise the excellence of South Devon's hotels, large or small, whether in the town or countryside.
The business must demonstrate commitment to providing quality accommodation, as well as striving for constant ongoing improvement and creative and effective marketing.
Last year, the Royal Seven Stars Hotel in Totnes was the Winner of Winner's and the Royal Castle in Dartmouth was also shortlisted in an award category. Anne and Nigel Way are the proud owners of both hotels.
"We are very aware that the success of our business has been down to having a very loyal and hardworking team of management and staff behind us," said Anne Way.
"We have also been fortunate in choosing local firms of solicitors and accountants to effectively advise us in dealing with the problems caused by the massive amount of red tape and legislation that small businesses have to cope with today."
Nigel Way said: "Don't think we are resting on our laurels –– we will be entering again this year. The publicity from these awards is invaluable."
Wollen Michelmore is the headline sponsor for the awards for the second year running.
Clive Meredith, practice director of Wollen Michelmore, was full of praise for all that Nigel, Anne and their team have achieved: "They have demonstrated that even in difficult economic times, if your business is distinct from the competition and delivers excellence in customer service and ambience it can absolutely thrive."
A five-star awards ceremony on October 11 will celebrate the achievements of all shortlisted companies in the awards and the winners will be announced.
