WELCOME to the Torbay Sports Awards 2012. For the first time in the event's long and prestigious history, Torbay Council has joined forces with the Herald Express to bring about the biggest sports awards to date.

The Friends of South Devon College have also been working as part of the team to help produce this high profile awards initiative that will showcase and recognise the very best of Torbay's impressive sporting talent.

The Torbay Sports Awards aim to acknowledge the selfless efforts of those that help to make our sporting community one of the best in the South West.

This year's event has a strong community focus, and the awards on offer aim to mark and recognise the achievements, dedication and determination of junior, disabled and senior sports people from across Torbay, as well those who have contributed as coaches, and there is a special award to recognise efforts to promote the summer Olympics and Paralympics in the region.

Naturally, this event would not be possible without the fantastic support of our sponsors, and my sincere thanks must go to Boyce Hatton who have been a superb headline sponsor of this year's event.

Thanks must also go to our award category sponsors. They are Europlas, GMM Insurance, Inter-Line Building Supplies, Western Power Distribution and Torbay Taxis.

The Riviera International Conference Centre is our host venue for the night, and we are delighted to be working with the team on the evening's event.

A huge debt is owed to the judging panel, whose members had the daunting task of selecting from many high quality entries that we had for the awards.

Many thanks to all that have been involved.

Michelle Pugh, Sales Director, Herald Express
