BRIXHAM is expected to feature in a television programme about ‘supermarket wars’ tonight.

Channel 4’s current affairs programme Dispatches is focusing on supermarkets this evening.

Gone are the days when Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda dominated the food retail business.

They are being undercut by discount stores like Aldi and Lidl and their profits are slumping.

Presenter Harry Wallop asks what went wrong — and is still going wrong — for the major retailers, and reveals the tricks of the discounters’ success.

He also investigates how the supermarkets are fighting back with an aggressive price war, claiming to have slashed the prices of thousands of everyday items — and whether these deals are all they’re cracked up to be.

Brixham councillor Chris Lomas said: “They spent a day filming in Brixham after Tesco pulled out. I gave them the background on developing the central car park.”

Dispatches is on Channel 4 from 8pm to 8.30pm.

Amazing! Not one BRATS 'member took up the offer of cheap publicity....apart from the shameless plugs for Lidl and Aldi - (bodge something up to look like it's the real deal...trigger auto-suggestion...not) - the only thing to come out of this is that Brixham wasn't alone in hoping for good things to come out of an 'alliance' with a major supermarket. I look forward with anticipation to the endless succession of meetings that now lie in wait for us, the ratepayers of this parish.........

Tauntonhobbit don't worry! Morey is going to organise a meeting with a view to setting the date for a meeting with the intention of forming a committee (called The Committee of the Adjournment) whose job it will be to organise all future meetings about ….. meetings. That'll sort it!

Expect a victory dance from BRATS - shame the end result of Tesco and their games has been to cost us much needed trade and give us yet more charity shops. The closures continue to happen, Brixham Rendezvous the other week and William Hill on July 29.....and still there is no word on the Thresher site, the fire station site or the bomb site (the one pretending to be our Central car park)....someone please do something......and I don't mean form yet another bl**dy committee!
