THE planned Christmas lights switch-ons in Brixham and Paignton have fallen victim to the weather.
Brixham's big switch-on has been postponed by 24 hours due to the forecast 60mph winds today.
The fireworks and switch-on will now be held on Sunday from 4pm.
The Christmas market will carry on unaffected by the weather and will run from 10am to 4pm in the Scala Hall today.
Torbay and Brixham councillor Mike Morey said: "We have checked with the harbourmaster's office.
"The wind should have died down by Sunday. He is quite happy for our switch-on event to go ahead on Sunday.
"There were too many health and safety issues around doing it on Saturday. It is disappointing but safety has to come first.
"The event will be the same, but one day behind."
Meanwhile, Paignton's Christmas light switch-on, due to take place this afternoon, has been switched around.
The Carol Service will now take place in Palace Avenue Church at 11am and Punch and Judy will be in Paignton Library at 1pm and again at 2.30pm.
The fireworks and laser show have also been postponed to a later date.
The main music acts who had been due to perform outdoors will be moved to an indoor location with numbers limited to 500 and free tickets available through Palm FM.
Listen from 11am today for details.
You can still take advantage of the £2.00 ALL DAY parking in all Torbay Council long stay car parks in Paignton town centre and visit some of the great shops that Paignton has to offer.
Matthew Dart of the Torbay Town Centres Company said: "We are truly sorry for the inconvenience but this decision has been taken in the interest of public safety."
Musicians MK1 and Rough Copy had been due to perform live on stage in Torbay Road.
