HOW scary is this. Writing a newspaper column when everyone who knows me clearly understands I am a man of very few words.
So, as a very proud mummy to be, Jennie Park, heads for her maternity leave, I'm taking over the reins here for the next few months and am relishing the challenge. But, please, be gentle with me.
Now, firstly, it does appear as if I may have to concede the fact we are fast losing the summer (no it hasn't gone yet. I'm still wearing my shorts as I write this) and the onslaught of Halloween, Bonfire Night and, dare I say it before December, Christmas looms ever closer. Here at Palm 105.5fm we have some very exciting events on the horizon as that very special date in December arrives (still find it hard to mention the 'C' word in October).
The return of the Ghoul Ride to School is one of my personal favourites where I cause a heap of disruption at various schools around South Devon, dropping kids off in the Palm 'Ghoul Mobile'.
Woodlands Theme Park is embracing Halloween with 'Freaky Friday' on Friday, November 1, hosted by Palm FM's very own presenter Jon White. Check out the Palm website for more details.
Once again we are on the hunt for Dobles Young Designer of the Year for 2013, where we ask the children of South Devon, aged 12 and under, to design a piece of exciting and original jewellery. The winner will receive the materials, worth up to £500, to realise and see their creation being made so they can give it to a loved one this Christmas... Oh no, I said it, again!
A couple of final things to mention... our Box of Bras campaign continues through October. So, ladies, if you have any spare bras lying around the house please be generous and donate them at one of our donation stations situated all around South Devon. The locations can be found online today at www.palm.fm.
Also, I've just recently discovered I'm going back off to Sweden on the Arctic challenge for 2014 and I'm very excited.
So, once again, I'll be heading off with a group of Palm FM listeners to northern Sweden, just inside the Arctic Circle, and I count myself as being very fortunate to again be heading out to the winter wonderland. More details to follow, so stay tuned.
Finally, thank you so much for all the support on our charity bowling night at AMF bowling in Torquay.
We raised over a thousand pounds on the night for the local Dream-A-Way charity. Plus, we all had a tremendous amount of fun and we'll be arranging another one in the early part of 2014.
That's it for now. Tune i to Palm 105.5fm Monday to Friday for my daytime show and I look forward to sharing more words of wisdom with you next week... toodle-oo!
