A CAR crashed through the window of a Paignton shop on Tuesday afternoon.
The car was left embedded in the window of Charltons furniture in Torquay Road, Preston.
Repairs were made to the window overnight and the front of the shop was boarded up.
Chris Holgate of nearby Refresh Cartridges said the accident happened about 1.40pm.
He said: "One of my colleagues went to see what had happened.
"There has been quite a lot of damage."
It is not thought anyone was seriously hurt.
Police had cordoned off an area around the shop.
Sgt Mark Ruston said: “At about 1.40pm a woman pulled in to park and drove into the front of Charltons Value Furniture. There was no significant speed involved. She was breathalysed and it appears this was simply an accident. There was another person in the car. Neither was injured. We are working to make the area safe and get the vehicle released.”
The car was a blue Chevrolet Matiz.
The police cordoned off the area including four other cars in front of the shop, but said that the drivers of these cars would be able to leave if they wished.
Engineers were sent to the scene to advise on the safe release of the car from the smashed glass shopfront.
It is understood there were no customers in the shop at the time of the accident. Nobody from the shop wished to comment.
