A CHILD has been rescued by coastguards after getting trapped on rocks near the Imperial Hotel in Torquay.
Coastguard a were called at about 2.30pm on Sunday.
The 12-year-old was picked up by a HM Coastguard helicopter from Portland which was on a training exercise in the area at the time.
The rescue came as hundreds of people flocked to the seafront to lap up the glorious October sunshine.
Crowds lined the prom to watch as the helicopter hovered near the cliffs and Imperial Hotel.
The rescue also took place in full view of the cruise ship Albatross which was anchored in the Bay.
