THE Shaldon Singers are keen to encourage anyone interested in joining the choir to two open rehearsals this month.

New singers are invited to go along to try out the choir before deciding whether or not to sign up.

The open rehearsals are in St Peter's Church, Shaldon, meeting from 6.45pm this evening and on January 17, finishing at 9pm.

The Singers will be rehearsing Haydn's Creation for their next concert on Saturday, May 18.

This ever-popular oratorio, often considered to be the composer's masterpiece, features many enjoyable choruses such as The Heavens are Telling.

Under the musical direction of Bob Carter, in December the choir performed Vivaldi's Gloria and Britten's Ceremony of Carols at their Christmas concert, which attracted a capacity audience.

The programme included two carols composed by the conductor, as well as some audience favourites.
