Coveted national award for hi-tech business

TORBAY Hi-Tech Forum member – Hymid Multi-Shot – has won the Business Development and Change Management Award at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2012.

The award was presented to Hymid Multi-Shot – a two shot injection moulding specialist – by Stephen Tetlow, chief executive of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The awards were held at held at The Dorchester in London and compered by Michael Portillo.

Technical sales director at Torquay based Hymid Multi-Shot , Andy Tettmar, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have won this award. It's a vote of confidence for the team, and reflects all the hard work we've put in over the last three to four years to turn the company around. It's a sign that manufacturing is going strong in the UK and I'm proud to be part of a growing industry."

Manufacturing Excellence, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, is the most successful and long established manufacturing business improvement programme in the UK, and the only one that provides a detailed benchmarking and assessment process to help improve manufacturing businesses. It is run in partnership with The ERA Foundation, Lombard and WMG; sponsored by Arup and supported by the Confederation of British Industry.

Vickie Broadbent, marketing manager for Hymid Multi-Shot, said: "We are looking forward to sharing our experience with other companies in the Torbay Hi Tech Forum. Sharing of best practice within a peer to peer environment has been one of the highlights for us as a company. The factory visits and open nature of discussion between technically minded forum members has been extraordinarily useful as part of Hymid's learning experience. It is a platform that enables us to feed back our experience to them that will hopefully be to Torbay's advantage."

Torbay Mayor Gordon Oliver said: "Congratulations to Hymid Multi-Shot for winning this prestigious national award. They are an exemplar in the hi-tech sector and I wish them every success as they continue to thrive in Torbay."
