THE Dartmoor Vale races on Sunday on were the best ever, say organisers, with around 800 runners competing.
Former Strictly Come Dancing star and MP Ann Widdecombe fired the starter's gun.
The races — a marathon, half marathon and 10k run — started and finished at East Gold Works, Newton Abbot. The event was sponsored by Sibelco.
Half the funds raised will go to charities supported by race organisers, Dart Vale Rotary, and the rest will be given to the good causes supported by the runners.
In 2011, £19,000 was collected and it is hoped that it can be matched.
For the first time, chip timing was introduced.
