THE Ashburton group of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team were lost for words when they recveived a £2,000 donation from the Buckfastleigh/Ashburton Rotary Club.

The volunteer rescuers were invited along for lunch by the club, a lunch which was followed by a cheque presentation.

A spokesman for the club said: "They said that they thought we would be pleased with the funds they had raised for us during the summer.

"Though every penny the team is given, is a penny it didn’t have a moment before, we were expecting to be grateful for a generous donation of perhaps a hundred or so pounds.

"In the event, the figure was a gob-smacking £2,000!"

Equipment officer Nigel Ash, who was sent along to receive the mystery amount, is not normally lost for words.

At first , however, the best he could do was gasp out an amazed “Hell’s teeth! Thank you so much, This is unbelievable!”

Mr Ash confessed later that he didn’t think he had been so surprised in his life and was very deeply moved.
