POLICE in protective body armour broke down doors at a property in Union Street, Torquay, as part of a drugs operation.

Eleven officers with tasers and a police dog smashed their way into the flat on Wednesday morning, February 6.

Seven members of the Full Support Group wearing padded protective gear and four neighbour beat officers from Ellacombe and Torre entered the property shortly after 9.30am to execute a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Officers smashed through the first door of the property using a battering ram because the doors had been reinforced.

A second interior door had also been padlocked on the inside and officers used a 'hooley' crow bar to break in.

A man and woman are helping police with inquiries.

Drugs paraphernalia associated with heroin use was seized at the premises, but no drugs were found.

Ellacombe neighbourhood beat manager PC Josh Marshall said: "We were acting under intelligence from the community about possible drug dealing at an address in the town centre.

"We would encourage anybody to come forward because we rely upon the public to help us."

Union street, the centre of our nice little tourist resort that is trying to attract familes. You can break down their doors, take their drugs, put them in jail BUT Torbay Council run a nice little merry-go-around system where by they will just be replaced with more of the same. They are waiting as we speak at Factory Row and the Newton Road Hostel, just ready for a nice little public funded flat by the sea. Book early tourists.
