A TORQUAY swimming pool and spa firm will tonight be receiving a European award. Harris Pools and Leisure Ltd has won an award at the prestigious European Union of Swimming Pool and Spa Associations (EUSA) awards.
Kris German and Glen Gardiner (pictured above) have travelled to Cologne in Germany for the event. Their award is in the domestic hot tub installation category and tonight they will find out if they have won a gold, silver or bronze.
This is a massive achievement by the company as it is the only British company to win an award from the hundreds of nominations from all over Europe.
The panellists from various countries unanimously agreed that the installation in Kingswear by the Harris Pools team was a worthy award winner.
And it's not the only award won recently by the company based in Princes Road. It was extremely proud to achieve two Gold Awards at this year's National Pool and Spa Ceremony in Brighton. It won a Gold Award for best commercial spa installation (at the luxurious Thurlestone Hotel spa suite) and a Gold Award for best residential hot tub installation.
The company has also celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. It was founded by Mike Harris in a spare bedroom of his house in 1983. Commenting on why Harris Pools continues to go from strength to strength, he said: "We deliver an attention to detail and a meticulous personal service which other companies simply cannot offer."
"We have a fantastic team of industry-qualified engineers and showroom staff who have worked tirelessly over the years to make Harris Pools synonymous with excellence in service and customer care. Perhaps this is why so much of our work comes to us via customer recommendations and referrals."
The company has won an impressive number of industry awards over the years, including in 2012 the highly coveted SPATA (Swimming Pool & Allied Trades Association) Pool Of The Year award.
The 30th anniversary party also coincides with Mike announcing his retirement and the firm passing into the hands of current employees Kris German and Glen Gardiner.
Mike said: "I am delighted that the business is going forward in the very safe hands of Kris and Glen. They have many, many years combined experience in the industry and are held in enormous affection and respect by all our customers.
"They were also instrumental in developments like the launch of our new online store and facebook page, meaning customers can now either come into the showroom to pick up their needs like they always have done, or, if they prefer, order online at their convenience and have it delivered to their door.
"I know they will continue focussing on exemplary customer service and take the business to new heights under their leadership""
Harris Pools also runs a 'Tubs for Torbay' scheme, promoting the health benefits of hot tubs and doing various offers for different business sectors and clubs in the Torbay area.
It also works closely with THHN (Torbay Holiday Helpers Network). And to coincide with the 30-year anniversary – for every hot tub sold during the remainder of 2013 Harris Pools is donating £250 to THHN.
