THE stage is set for the five-star awards night of the English Riviera and South Devon Tourism and Hospitality Awards.
The event, which is being held at the Palace Hotel, Torquay, on Friday, October 11, will celebrate the achievements of all the shortlisted companies in the 13 categories.
Chris Hart, managing partner of award headline sponsors Wollen Michelmore solicitors and chairman of the English Riviera Tourism Company, was on the judging panel and said making final selections was difficult because of the high quality and record level of applicants.
He said: "This year the awards have demonstrated the quality of the tourism and hospitality industry and this continues to drive the increase in visitors.
"I'm really excited by the strength and depth and excellence which has been evident from the entries.
"Everyone who made the shortlist should be very proud of their achievement.
"We're looking forward to a sparkling evening of celebration."
Television presenter Monty Halls will be the guest speaker.
The explorer and broadcaster, whose programmes include Great Escape, Great Barrier Reef, and Fisherman's Apprentice, will speak of his globetrotting adventures and brushes with nature.
Mr Hart said: "It's a great coup for the awards that Monty is going to be a guest speaker."
Tickets are still on sale for the event. Call 01803 676263 or visit www.heraldexpresstourismawards.co.uk for more details.
