A LINK between Torquay United and the CLIC Sargent charity, which goes back to a memorable day at Wembley four years ago, has been renewed by a new fundraising effort. Young leukaemia sufferer Lewis Starkie was chosen to lead the Gulls out for the 2009 Conference Play-Off Final against Cambridge United at Wembley.
And after the match goalscorer Tim Sills gave his boots to Lewis, who auctioned them off to raise money for CLIC. Now the Torquay United Fans' Forum have raised £150 for the charity.
Last season they sponsored defender Brian Saah, who has now joined League Two rivals Dagenham & Redbridge, and they decided to follow Lewis Starkie's example by auctioning Saah's shirt.
Gulls fan Rob Chandler (above) came in with the highest bid, and the money has now been donated to CLIC.
The TFF's player support is continuing this season – they are now sponsoring striker Karl Hawley.
