Firms encouraged to enter awards

COMPANIES will be encouraged to enter the 2014 South Devon Business Excellence Awards at an industry event tomorrow.

Torbay Development Agency's 2nd Friday breakfast at 8.30am at Cockington Court, Torquay, will encourage firms to enter the awards.

TDA and Torbay Council are the headline sponsors of the prestigious awards and hope to raise aspirations and achievements of Torbay businesses.

The awards are open to all businesses in South Devon, large or small with a range of categories.

The 1st and 2nd Friday events take place at the Innovation Centres at Torquay, Paignton and at Cockington Court and are a successful networking opportunity where local businesses meet on a regular basis, make contacts and take part in seminars.

Tomorrow the guest speaker is Andrew Dean from Dame Hannah Rodgers Trust, talking about 'Aspirational and Entrepreneurial Culture'.

Herald Express editor Jim Parker will then introduce the South Devon Business Excellence Awards.

Mayor of Torbay Gordon Oliver said: "I am very pleased the South Devon Business Excellence Awards are being highlighted this week at the TDA's 2nd Friday networking event at Cockington Court, and I welcome Andrew Dean from Dame Hannah Rodgers Trust as this week's guest speaker.

"Torbay Council recognises that the strength of our local companies are the bedrock of our economy and it is these businesses that continue to strive for excellence in their field that are an inspiration for fledgling businesses to learn from their experience and success.

"I look forward to this year's awards event which is a highlight in the business calendar in Torbay, and I urge all local businesses to nominate themselves and their hard working employees for one of these prestigious awards."

Torbay Development Agency chief executive Steve Parrock said: "The TDA, in partnership with Torbay Council, are backing these important awards that reward business excellence, as we strive to generate economic prosperity for the Bay through regeneration.

"This year I hope to encourage the many innovative businesses we have been working with over the last 12 months to enter the awards to promote their achievements which have generated jobs and trade for the local economy."

The 2nd Friday starts at 8.30am with networking and breakfast followed by a welcome by Innovation Centre manager Adrian Sheen, followed by the presentation by Andrew Dean and the introduction to the South Devon Business Excellence Awards.

All business are invited to attend the Friday events, there is a £7.50 charge which includes a buffet breakfast. Log on to www.swinnovationcentres.co.uk to register and download a free parking permit.

Companies large and small in all fields of business are urged to enter the 2014 Herald Express South Devon Business Excellence awards.

The finalists will be invited to a glittering event at the Riviera International Conference Centre in March to celebrate their success.

This year's key dates are: nominations close February 3; awards ceremony March 7 at the Riviera International Conference Centre.
