A STATIC display of model aircraft circled Newton Abbot's clock tower.

The aeroplanes were brought to the town by the Exeter and District Radio Control Club.

There was also a chance to have a go at flying using a dual control, computer generated training aircraft.

Membership secretary Mel Baker said: "We all enjoyed it very much. I am sure we gained the interest of many shoppers and the club will benefit from several new members."

Sally Henley, Newton Abbot town centre manager, said: "I didn't realise just how complex this field is and it is governed by the same regulations as full sized passenger aircraft.

"It was, therefore, not a surprise to see how much interest there was from more technically minded shoppers, who were able to talk to enthusiastic club members.

"I am always delighted when I am approached by people who are interested in using the town centre space and the day was made even more enjoyable, as we were also treated to live music from the Foot Tappers."
