Lanzarote holidays have always been a family favourite, and the Canary Islands are the ideal destination for anyone looking to soak up some winter sun, with the many beautiful beaches playing host to hundreds of thousands of tourists each year.

If you’re planning on taking a family trip to Lanzarote and want to avoid the usual kid's clubs, there are plenty of action-packed activities to keep you and your little (or not so little!) ones entertained.

Visit the National Park - The Timanfaya National Park is the product of a number of volcanic eruptions some 200 years ago, leaving a cratered and barren landscape in its wake. Adults will appreciate this testament to the raw power of nature, whilst children will love the on-site camel safari tour, giving them the opportunity to explore the breath-taking landscape in a truly unique way.

Take an underwater adventure - Adventurous children will revel in a trip to Puerto Calero for a magical yellow submarine tour. Kids will love the novelty factor of being underwater, whilst also having the chance to admire the rare and exotic marine life that thrives on the Lanzarote coast. The submarine stops on the ocean floor for an hour, giving you and your children the chance to get up close and personal with a wide variety of marine life, including the elusive octopus.

Learn about whales and dolphins - The Canarian Cetacean Museum has a wealth of interactive exhibits, allowing children to learn about the local whales and dolphins in a fun- filled environment. The team of researchers behind the museum have put a lot of work into investigating the psychology of dolphins and beaked whales, making the exhibits informative for mum and dad too.

Visit a theme park - The Rancho Texas theme park is always a good bet when you’re taking children to Lanzarote. The Wild West style attractions will keep kids entertained and occupied, whilst the on-site petting zoo complete with ponies and buffalo is perfect for younger children. The Aqua Park Costa Teguise is also ideal if your children enjoy swimming, giving them the chance to escape the hotel pool and mingle with other kids.
