THE GULLS only made it to their match at Northampton Town last night after a race against time which still ended with a kick-off delayed by half-an-hour.

And they would never have reached Sixfields without the help of League Two rivals Cheltenham Town, whom they had beaten 2-1 at Plainmoor in midweek!

United's team coach was trapped in a major traffic jam which closed both carriageways of the M5, caused by a threatened suicide at a junction.

Eventually, United's players and staff carried kit and match equipment off their coach and up an embankment, to meet the Cheltenham team coach on a bridge over the motorway.

Meanwhile, several staff and players, including coach Shaun North, Guy Branston, Jake Robinson and Billy Kee, had made their own way to Northampton.

North handed in the team sheet on time, but everyone else had to wait for the rest of the party to reach Sixfields around 7.45pm.
