A ST MARYCHURCH business is playing host to the newest English Riviera Tourism Company visitor information point.
Forget Me Not in the precinct at St Marychurch has joined Torbay Bookshop in Paignton and Dot's Pantry in Torquay which have also recently joined the information point scheme.
Carolyn Custerson, chief executive of the tourism company said: "We are really pleased to see yet another local business responding to our call for the private sector to rally round and host VIPs around the resort following the recent tourism budget cuts. It is very rewarding to see the increasing level of support coming in for the ERTC's vital work and I'd like to thank Forget Me Not's owner Chris Howell for all his efforts in making possible this latest VIP in St Marychurch.
Chris Howell, owner of Forget Me Not said: "St Marychurch, Babbacombe and Plainmoor have a lot to offer the visitor. St Marychurch also offers one of the best local shopping precincts in the area and Forget Me Not is located in the heart of the precinct in Fore Street. We are now able to provide information for the whole of the English Riviera as well as local detail for visitors from within our retail shop, which provides specialist gifts, balloons and cards for all occasions."
Ian Broadfoot, chief executive of Torbay Town Centres Company said: "It is also important to recognise the value of the close partnership working that has been developed between the Business Improvement Districts, Torbay Town Centres Company and the English Riviera Tourism Company to establish new VIPs within the town centres and to make the visitor experience as welcoming and professional as we possibly can."
To be considered as an official Visitor Information Point, a business has to be open all year, so the new partnerships being created by the ERTC are in fact improving the information service for visitors as the previous sites were only open from Easter until the end of October.
The new VIPs are managed by the individual businesses and receive no payment from the ERTC. They are provided with official information including the official English Riviera Destination Guide, the Great Days Out Guide (the official in-resort visitors guide), free maps, events leaflets, Agatha Christie and Global Geopark leaflets. Ticket sales for theatre, coach and boat trips may be provided by the host businesses on an optional basis.
All staff working at the Visitor Information Points will be required to attend the nationally accredited Welcome English Riviera Customer Service and Product Knowledge Course.
