Style over substance can be an all two familiar subject when listening to new music . Wheres the soul, ? The connection , the feeling that living without your newest love is meaningless.
With this in mind I press play on the long awaited EP from Devon musician Harry Vinnicombe
It's been a long journey. An abandoned record ,shelved in favour of a new more personal sound . We got the first taster with "hey there miss " realised as a single and present on this five track EP entitled Heart & soul
Harry manages to create real honestly within the musical platter as well as in lyrical form . It has an almost classic feel without being a direct replica of 70s /80.s new white boy soul (. We are talking Luther Vandross not Richard Marx here.
The voice may not shine to the dizzy heights of his creative muses but you believe every word he sings .Couple this with a gift for the sort of guitar playing most can only dream off. It's layers go well beyond his young years . The instrument sings .It is without doubt his strength . It's part of him a musical duo partnership made in the most unlikely of places. All the more amazing When you discover that this EP was done in a few takes due to studio recording cost. This just adds a whiff of organic authenticity .No tricks no gimmicks just great songwriting and musical ability .
Favourite track? The first few bars of opener "Better Days " or "Money" which opens your mind to a laid back summers day or " When I Need A Friend " with its killer accidental sax solo. It's impossible ,as unlike most music in 2012 it needs to be played as part of a unite in its own surroundingsPress play and listen from start to finish .Not done that in a while ? Well now is the time to connect yourself with what has become an outdated concept .
Its that time of year when music fans everywhere begin to talk about ones to watch .May I put this name into the ring for 2013 Harry Vinnicombe
