A PAIGNTON law firm has taken on a college's Student of the Year to work as an intern prior to studying for his law degree.
Jacob Edmundson has been given his first foot on the legal ladder by Paignton solicitors Nutshellaw.
Principal Matt Pope said: "Jacob has been taken on as an intern under the practice's Developing Local Talent programme. He will be studying for a degree in law from September in the south west, and we are happy to assist him in understanding how a legal practice operates."
Jacob studied for his GCSEs at Paignton Community College and then continued at their sixth form where he took law, history and finance.
"He completed his A-levels receiving excellent grades and won specific recognition for his work ethic," said Matt. "He was presented with the Student of the Year award."
Jacob's role in the practice will be assisting with office administration, meeting and greeting clients and where permissible, will sit in at client meetings and court hearings to aid his general understanding of how business law works.
Matt said: "He has a work plan with a range of learning objectives that should stand him in good stead whilst reading law, including the opportunity to give a presentation to the business community of Torbay.
"He has real potential to succeed in law. He has demonstrated a commitment to studying whilst working in potentially difficult circumstances where compliance matters are important."
Jacob said: "I am delighted to be given this opportunity to explore a career in corporate law while continuing my studies."
Nutshellaw is situated in the South West Innovation Centre in Paignton.
