Jane's in town with her gypsy-jazz musical of a down and out Santa

MUSIC at the Blue Walnut in Chelston tonight comes from Jane Taylor.

Jane is performing with her band (pictured) as part of her UK tour.

She is currently receiving a lot of attention after being championed by Johnnie Walker of Radio 2, and she is looking forward to a forthcoming live session with Bob Harris.

She will be performing, among others, brand new songs from her forthcoming musical project Mr Claus, a gypsy-jazz styled musical about a down and out Santa Claus facing the 21st Century high tech modern on-line ordering world.

THE Royal Marines Christmas Spectacular comes to the Princess Theatre, Torquay on Saturday night.

The world famous Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines will present a military music spectacular featuring festive music, military marches, big band hits and popular showstoppers.

A MUSICAL charity show is being held in aid of the Lucy Air Ambulance for Children at the Half Moon in Paignton on Saturday from 7.30pm.

Artists appearing include Rebecca Clifton, Eddie Beaumont, Rockin Ken, Dave Clements, Sandy Hargreaves, Jim Hopkinson, Bev Peters, Derek James and Jo Argent.

Entry is free.

A RELAXING evening of jazz, Latin and soulful tunes is promised with Annika Skoogh, Matt Carter (piano) and Neil Maya (sax) on Sunday from 8pm at the Cott Inn in Dartington. Entry is free.

NEWTON Abbot Jive Club host Johnnie Fox and the Invaders Band for a night of rock and roll on Saturday at Forde Hall Social Club.

THE Totnes Training Band took two second prize trophies at the recent South West Brass Band Association contest at the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay.

More than 30 brass bands from as far afield as Dorset and South Wales met for fierce competition across a number of different sections and categories.

The Totnes Training Band exists to introduce new players to brass playing and to develop existing players as part of Totnes Brass Band.

Under the leadership of Daniel Wilmott, both children and adults took a commendable second place in the training band section.

Joined later by some of the slightly more advanced learners and competing against mature and far more capable musicians the group, under the stewardship of their musical director Alan Wilmott, played superbly to take a further second place in the 'ungraded bands' section.
