CONGRATULATIONS to Riviera Sound, one of the West Country's leading ladies four part harmony choruses, who have returned from the City of Plymouth Festival of Dance, Music Speech and Drama, triumphant after winning the Glen Barbershop Trophy and beating all other competitors in the Youth and Adult Choir Section to receive the Alice Platt Shield.

MD of Riviera Sound, Chris Bullen, said: "This is a fantastic achievement.

"All the ladies have worked incredibly hard to reach such a high standard, while still having fun while singing.

"It is a privilege to receive such an accolade and we are proud to bring some hard-won silverware back to Torbay.

"We have just cut our first CD which should be available soon for sale and we already have a very full diary to sing at up and coming events leading up to Christmas.

"I am deeply proud of each and every member of Riviera Sound."

Karen joins trio

KAREN Sharp joins the Craig Milverton Trio on Wednesday night for Speakeasy Jazz at the Bancourt Hotel in Torquay.

Karen took up the tenor saxophone while studying composition at the Royal Northern College of Music.

A friend introduced her to a recording of Dexter Gordon and she was instantly hooked.

She has worked with many top class British and American musicians such as Scott Hamilton, Sir John Dankworth and Cleo Laine.

A three-year stint in Humphrey Lyttelton's band took her to venues and festivals across the UK and into Europe.

She has twice won the tenor saxophone category in the British Jazz Awards.
