JAMES LEE: Scored his first 147 in practice at St Anne's

TORBAY A have made a good start in the group stages of the Bilby Cup this year.

They opened with a 4-1 win away to Exeter C and followed that up with a 5-0 home win over Barnstaple B, with wins for Alan Tunney, Adrian Tocknell, Jason Whittaker, John Halliwell and James Lee.

The highest break of the night was an 80 clearance from Lee, who is in top form right now, having got his first 147 just a few days earlier in a practice match at St Anne's.

Lee is among several Torbay RGB Snooker League players taking part in the West of England Gold Waistcoat tour, sponsored by Rileys, with two rounds already completed in Plymouth.

Darren Bond from Tiverton leads rankings after two events but it is the ascendance of the current champion Andy Neck (Newton Abbot) into second place that is ominous.

Neck under performed in event one but turned that around with a solid performance to win event two.

In the semi final Neck beat Bond, aided by a 74 break, and in the final he beat Alan Hurley from Cornwall.

In the quarters Hurley had made breaks of 60 and 40 to beat Alan Tunney (Torbay) who is back playing following an injury.

The next Gold Waistcoat event, in February, is scheduled to take place at the South West Snooker Academy, Gloucester.
