TORBAY Leisure Centre has signed up to the Herald Express loveLIFE campaign.
The centre, whose new gym is officially opening on Saturday, is supporting the campaign to adopt a healthier lifestyle and urging its users to sign up with their pledges.
The campaign is aiming to sign up all of South Devon's gym members to pledge to do their bit to reach the community targets of a million steps, miles, cigarettes and 100,000 pounds lost.
The new gym at the Clennon Valley centre in Paignton is around 50 metres squared bigger and all the equipment has been replaced from the new Precor range.
The Mayor of Torbay, Gordon Oliver, will be officially opening the gym on Saturday at 10am and everyone is welcome to attend.
The gym is free to use all that day and there are also a number of free exercise classes available.
Jeremy Wright, general manager of Torbay Leisure Centre, said: "I am delighted with the new gym and the fantastic response we have received from members and visitors alike.
"This was a substantial investment which benefits the local community and rewards all our long standing customers. The staff are also delighted with the prospect of welcoming many more new and existing members to the facility.
"The centre promotes the same healthy lifestyle messages as the loveLIFE campaign and we are delighted to come on board."
Simon Kitchin, centre fitness manager, said the new equipment is already proving popular. He said: "It's fantastic and so nice to see all these people working hard to get a good level of fitness and enjoying the variety of equipment available to help them."
Torbay Council has agreed to reduce the parking charges at Clennon Valley to £1 for the day on Saturday.
The loveLIFE campaign has been running since February last year, and is backed by South Devon companies Europlas and DevonFresh, as well as Sanctuary Housing Group, Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust.
