Looking at new ways to deliver better services

IF you are a regular reader of the Herald Express you will have seen Anthony Farnsworth wrote his last column as chief executive of Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust two weeks ago.

Anthony has moved on to pastures new to take on a role at the NHS Commissioning Board, and as deputy chief executive and former chief operating officer for the trust, I have been asked to take on the role of interim chief executive.

While I am saddened to no longer work with such a fantastic colleague and an inspirational leader, I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to lead the trust.

I have worked for the trust since 2004 and was luckily enough then to be part of and lead a pilot in Brixham to create an integrated health and social care service.

That pilot was successful and in 2005 it was rolled out across the whole of Torbay. The trust is the only place in the South West to operate in this way, and the model of integrated care has national acclaim, something we are very proud of.

I am, of course, under no illusion this will be a difficult and challenging role. The NHS and our trust is going through a significant period of change and we continually need to look at developing new ways of delivering better and more efficient services, but as a local woman who was born and raised in Torbay, I am passionate about delivering high quality health and social care services in our local area and I remain committed to the trust's philosophy of ensuring every person gets the right care, at the right time and in the right place.

I am also very excited to be given the opportunity to continue writing in the Herald Express and plan to use the column to keep you, the people we are here to serve, up to date with the latest happenings, progress and changes in the trust.

This week nominations for the trust's annual Blue Shield Awards were launched. The awards aim to recognise and celebrate the staff who go above and beyond their roles, each and every day.

If you know of a member of staff or a team who is worthy of an award, I would encourage you to go online at www.tsdhc.nhs.uk to find out more about the categories and nominate.
