THE dream of winning this year's X Factor is still well and truly alive for Teignmouth teenager Luke Friend.
He impressed the 4,000-strong crowd at Wembley Arena and received a standing ovation at his second audition where he performed Too Much Love Will Kill You.
He has now sailed through to the bootcamp stage of the TV singing contest.
Judge Sharon Osbourne said she 'adored him'.
The 17-year-old student, who attends Coombeshead Academy, said it was his biggest audience to date.
"I got through this round and my dad was tearful," said Luke.
"It took us an hour to do a 10-minute walk as people from the arena kept stopping me. We went into Tesco Express and there were loads of girls screaming at me."
Since starting the auditions three weeks ago, Luke's fan base has grown dramatically.
He has gone from having hundreds of followers on Twitter to more than 7,000.
He says: "I'm a normal guy so I find it weird people screaming at me."
His headteacher, Matthew Shanks, said the school is backing the talented singer on the show.
"We are all incredibly proud of him and pleased this has happened to such a kind, caring and humble student," said Mr Shanks.
"He is an inspiration to us all that we can achieve our goals if we work hard.
"You really could not meet a nicer, more polite young man."
