NEWTON Abbot Borough crier Eveline Davies officially opened Mad Hatters Café and Cake Shop in Wolborough Street which has created eight jobs. It is being run by husband and wife team Elaine and Kevin who ran The Cake Stop in Queen Street.
Stephen Evans has been appointed chef at Mad Hatters Café, which is described as 'bistro-led with vintage undertones'. Stephen has previously worked at Gidleigh Park, the Twisted Oak, the Drew Arms and The Terrace Café at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen.
He says that using local suppliers will be a top priority and he is looking forward to tempting customers with breakfasts, morning coffee, light lunches and vintage afternoon teas served on bone china – of course!
Keeping it local – the new café logo has been designed by student Brenna Fraser from Teign school.
Local florist Floral Passion will be taking over the Queen Street site.
