"We alerted the ambulance, the fire service and Western Power."

They added that as of 6am this morning, Western Power had told the police that there was a lot of work that needed to be done and the road would need to be closed for several hours to complete it.

It is unclear as to when that work will be done and whether anyone lost power at any stage.

An ambulance spokesperson added: "We were called by the police and sent the HART team because the man had collided with power cables.

"He was outside of the car when we arrived and we believe he was not seriously injured. He was taken to Torbay Hospital."

It is believed that the injured man is from the Kingsteignton area.
