A CARAVAN has been completely destroyed in a blaze at a Marldon holiday park.
Crews from Paignton and Torquay were called to the Marldon Tor Caravan site at 8.30am.
On arrival they found a caravan containing a propane cylinder and an awning well alight.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet, a main jet and a thermal imaging camera.
Two propane gas cylinders were also involved in the fire.
John May, site manager said: “The caravan was unoccupied and thankfully the nearest occupant was 60 yards away, so no-one was in any danger.”
He said that he thought that one of the propane cylinders was ignited in the fire.
“It is a bit of a mystery what has happened, it is a seasonal caravan and left unoccupied.
“I have contacted the owner in Bristol who is upset to say the least.
“It certainly isn’t the ideal way to start the morning,” said Mr May.
Fire investigators and police were on site to establish the cause of the fire.
