WE'VE all been there: ordering Christmas presents online… some for you and some not.
You open one box from the delivered goodies, so excited that you could cry.
Your hands are trembling and your top lip is a-quiverin'. It's the moment you've been waiting for... when suddenly you hear a tiny girlie scream and realise it's you.
The parcel tape had finally snapped, not drawing too much blood, the lid popped open and you eagerly delved inside, pulling that glorious goodie from within which then proceeded to break free from your enthusiastic grasp and arcs gently through the air in super slow-mo.
Like Rooney you blindly kick out in the hope of deflecting it somewhere, anywhere, but it glances off your foot and impacts downwards with enough force to crack a tile.
Not only have you broken the would-be present but you also suspect you've broken a toe.
I also find myself a little bit sad at this time of year. Gone is the time I used to look forward to each year... preparing your timetable to record your wish list of films from the eagerly anticipated Christmas schedule — on VHS video tape. Oh yes! Armed with the Radio Times, TV Times and a bumper six pack of E240 video tapes newly-acquired from Woolworths, it was time to lay out, with military precision, which two films should be paired together on which tape so they don't exceed the maximum four hours and lose any vital endings.
Timing was crucial and made even more complicated if you had to also use the old Ferguson Videostar in the bedroom. Happy days.
On Wednesday last week during Luke Friend's homecoming, Matt Rogan from Palm Breakfast was invited along to interview Luke who also had X Factor judge and mentor Louis Walsh by his side.
Luke had been back to visit his close friends and family in his home town of Teignmouth before a massive reception at Lemon Jelli in Newton Abbot who had given him his first gig when he was an unknown.
In the evening Luke played his homecoming gig at the great hall at Exeter Uni to hundreds and Matt was there cheering and singing along.
