JASON MILES was the first winner of the Coast and Countryside Pool League Handicap Charity Shield night, which was held at the Galaxy Centre in Torquay.

Miles, who plays in the league for Devonport M, edged out Mike Orchard of Sportsmans in a closely-contested final which did not finish until almost 4am.

Miles won £210.75 for his chosen charity, Cancer Research UK, while Orchard collected £70.25 which he donated to Rowcroft.

Organiser Rob Short thanked Galaxy Centre staff and manager Lee Cooper for allowing the evening to continue early into the hours of the next morning.

He added: "Most of all thank you to all players that made it a special night and entered. It shows how our league have great support from our players."
