Mulled wine and carols on festive menu

MULLED wine, carols and Christmas tunes will feature at Dartmouth Orchestra's Christmas Concert at the Flavel on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

This is the first time the orchestra will have performed at the Flavel and the players and conductor Sid Davis are looking forward to an exciting evening.

The classical programme will include, among others, Mendelssohn's brilliant Hebrides overture and Elgar's evocative Sea Pictures.

A delightful oboe concerto by Corelli and arranged by John Barirolli will be played by Jane Carrington-Porter.

Guest performer Helen Sheppard will sing some familiar songs especially arranged for the concert.

IT'S Jam Night at the Cork and Bottle in Paignton tomorrow night.

Any singers or musicians are invited to come along and join in the fun, which starts at 9pm.

A band playing their last gig of 2012 this week are the excellent Esplanades, who say farewell to the old year in style at the Kings Arms, Kingsteignton tomorrow night.

THE Jolly Farmer at Newton Abbot hosts a star-studded Christmas Charity Extravaganza on Sunday from 7pm.

Rowcroft Hospice will benefit from the proceeds of the night, which features a hog roast, mulled wine and Christmas tree.

Bands and performers taking part will include Go Tell Alice, Owen Penrice, Cydney Brown and the Humanitarians.

CHRISTMAS is a busy time for the Brixham Town Band, with plenty of engagements to keep band members busy.

You can catch the band in action tomorrow at 7pm at All Saints Church, Brixham for the annual Lifeboat Guild Carol Service.

They will also be at Brixham Cricket Club on Saturday at 8pm for their Christmas Concert and at the Old Fish Market on Tuesday from 7pm for the Vigilance Carol Service.

The band meet every Monday and Thursday evening at Brixham Community College music department for practice sessions at 7.45pm. The training band meets at the same venue every Thursday at 6.30pm for practice.

IT'S Christmas party time for country music afficionados as the Blazing Saddles Country and Western Club welcome Kicking Country to the Forde Hall Social Club in Newton Abbot next Tuesday night.

All are welcome.

THE Alvington Singers continue their Christmas concerts series at Dittisham Church tomorrow at 7.30pm and at Dodbrooke Church next Wednesday, also at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available on the door, or from any choir member.
