THE Torbay Bookshop in Paignton won three awards at the Thorntons Franchisee Awards event –– including Best Franchise of the Year.
The company also won Independent Franchise Sales Award 2012/2103 and Store Standards Award 2012/2013.
There was also success for member of staff Jade Jeffs who was runner-up for the Franchise Colleague Award.
It was just under two years ago that Matthew and Sarah Clarke purchased the franchise of Thorntons Chocolates within weeks of the company's own store closing in the town.
Sarah said: "It was a steep learning curve and has become a great addition to our bookselling business. Last year we were runners-up in the Best Newcomer category so to win these awards in such a short space of time is really great."
In the presentation, given by CEO Jonathan Hart, mention was given to the 'staggering' increase year-on-year in the business.
Matthew said: "In these challenging times in retail, one is constantly bombarded by bad news on the high street so it is particularly pleasing that a shop, here in Paignton, receives high praise and national coverage of our efforts. Thanks to our professional staff and fantastic customers."
