NEW figures show the scale of personal debts for people living in South Devon.
Debt help and advice company Payplan have advised nearly 2,000 people across the region in the last year.
The value of the debts is more than £70million and the average debt per person is around £76,000.
A total of 512 people in Torquay have contacted Payplan for advice, representing £36million in new debts.
The average debt for these people in Torquay is £70,454.
In Paignton 244 people have sought advice and in Brixham 146.
