A FORMER student of Knowles Hill School, Newton Abbot, has received a prestigious award for his work with the Royal Navy.
Rob McHardy received the Fleet Commander's Commendation from Admiral Sir George Zambellas — the Royal Navy's deputy chief of staff at a ceremony at Portsmouth naval base last month.
The 36-year-old engineer, who works for Babcock International Group in Plymouth, was awarded the accolade for 'outstanding service to the Royal Navy'.
He was selected for the honour after working on submarine HMS Talent on a revalidation and assisted maintenance programme.
His 'hard work', 'determination' and 'careful planning' meant the submarine was back to the fleet on time and within budget.
"I'm extremely thrilled I received the award. I never expected to be selected to receive such an honour," said Mr McHardy.
"I was nominated by the submarine staff.
"I'm proud I was awarded it on behalf of my team, which all worked very hard on the project."
