POLICE have welcomed the jailing of a gunman who shot a love rival in the back with an air rifle.
Adam Berry shot victim Kyle Dean from 20 feet away in a revenge attack after the two men fell out because Berry was living with Mr Dean's ex-girlfriend.
Berry, 21, of Woodlands Road, Newton Abbot, admitted causing actual bodily harm in the attack two months ago and was jailed for two years at Exeter Crown Court.
DC Richard Griggs, investigating officer, welcomed the sentence.
He said: "This was a terrifying incident for the people who saw this man discharge a weapon in a quiet residential area where there were several people close by.
"This was very dangerous and reckless.
"People did not know what was going on and they were quite terrified to see a weapon being fired."
DC Griggs said Berry saw the other man leaning into a parked car on the street where they both lived in Newton Abbot and went inside to fetch the air rifle. He took aim and fired a pellet causing a small puncture wound in Mr Dean's back.
