EXCITING news from Newton Abbot singer/songwriter Nicky Swann, who has been nominated among some illustrious company at the 2013 Spiral Earth Awards for Best Original Song with Because of You.

The voting is open the public until March 14 and you can vote by clicking www.spiralearth.co.uk/spiralawards2013/best-original-song.asp

Other nominees in the category are Nick Cave featuring Emmylou Harris; Anais Mitchell and Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman.

Nicky said: "I can't believe that I'm alongside Emmylou and Nick, and as much as I love them please don't vote for them because I need all the help I can get here!"

The song is taken from Nicky's second album How Does Your Land Lie?, a collection inspired by her home town.

It tells the story of Frank Matcham, the leading Victorian theatre architect who was born in 1854 in Newton Abbot.

He designed more than 200 theatres in Britain, including the London Palladium, the London Hippodrome, Blackpool's Grand Theatre and Tower Ballroom, Buxton Opera House and the County Arcade in Leeds.

Meanwhile, the Nicky Swann Trio will be playing a special homecoming gig at the Jolly Farmer on March 15 to celebrate the launch of How Does your Land?

More details nearer the time.
