A TAXI driver escaped with minor injuries after his car overturned in a collision in Paignton on Tuesday night.
The 57-year-old driver of the Citroen Xsara, Mark Mooney, was reported trapped in the crash at traffic lights on the corner of Torquay Road and Seaway Lane at Preston. The junction remained closed for nearly three hours.
By the time police, fire engines and local people got to him Mr Mooney had managed to escape from the overturned vehicle.
The 24-year-old driver of a white Volkswagen Polo was being interviewed by police following the incident.
A police spokesman said: “We were called to Torquay Road at just before 11pm last night after reports of a taxi on its roof after a two car collision at the traffic lights at the junction of Seaway Road.
“By the time officers arrived there was one walking wounded with minor injuries.
“The 24-year-old driver of the VW Polo, who is from Torquay, is being interviewed following the collision at the traffic lights.
“Torbay Highways was called to clear the road.”
On the Herald Express Facebook website injured taxi driver Mark Mooney explained how the collision had happened and thanked members of the public who had come out to help him.
