HOLIDAYMAKER Philip Payne feared the worst when he realised his wedding ring had gone missing during a game of crazy golf on Paignton seafront.
But then Philip, on holiday from Stourbridge in the West Midlands with wife Rachel, son Samuel and friends at Paignton's Hoburne holiday centre, remembered getting a soaking courtesy of Paignton Regatta's dunk tank earlier that day.
So he retraced his steps to the spot on the Green where he had been dumped in the water after daring to sit on the "ducking stool" over the trough.
He and Samuel had both had a go at the regatta's new game.
Sharp-eyed regatta committee member Steve Fry took a look into the depths and saw Philip's wedding ring glinting on the bottom of the deep, dark pool.
"It was like Lord of the Rings," said Steve. "The sunlight just picked out the shiny wedding ring on the bottom of the trough, so I reached in and got it out for him."
Philip and family were delighted at their good fortune.
