Petrol station at Penn Inn evacuated after report of car on fire

THE Sainsbury’s petrol station at Penn Inn, Newton Abbot, was evacuated while the fire service attended a report of a car on fire.

A spokesman for the filling station said the car was smoking and the fire service was called as a precaution.

The filling station was closed for around 20 minutes from 11.25am on Thursday.

The fire service sent two applicances from Newton Abbot to the scene.

On arrival, crews found there had been a small fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle. The fire was out on arrival.

    Hardly a story is it? Yes, if they'd been a large bang, and a big explosion. Not if someone didn't put their fag out whilst filling up!!
