UPDATE: Cyclist hurt in Paignton road accident

A CYCLIST suffered serious head injuries after he came off his bike in Paignton on Saturday.

Police were called to the scene in Upper Headland Park Road just after 2pm.

The 46-year-old man was initially thought to have sufferd life threatening injuries and the road was closed along with Preston Down Road while investigations took place.

Police said they were alerted to the accident by ambulance.

A police spokesman said: "He was travelling east and was decending down a long steep gradient towards Preston seafront when he came off his bike resulting in a serious head injury.

"He was transferred from Torbay Hospital to Derriford where it was reported he had serious but not life threatening head and back injuries."

The police spokesman said no vehicles were involved and the cyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
