POLICE had to restrain a man who was threatening to jump from the parapet of Shaldon Bridge early this evening. (Saturday, September 14).
The man was pulled back over the railings by officers after threatening to jump four metres into the River Teign, He was taken into custody by officers at shortly before 5.50pm.
Brixham coastguards were alerted and Teignmouth lifeboat was on standby.
A coastguard spokesman said: "We were requested but the lifeboat was stood down before we arrived. The man was taken into police custody."
A member of the public who witnessed the incident said: "A man sat on the parapet of the Teignmouth to Shaldon Bridge had to be restrained and pulled back over the railings. He's safe now, thankfully."
