Prizes for brightening up Torbay for the festive season

THE lights have been turned off and the Torbay Winter Glitterland results declared.

This year saw a bumper crop of entries from people brightening up their homes and businesses.

The competition closed on Christmas Eve and all the entries have been looked at closely including head judge Marshall Ritchie.

Winners and runners-up will receive their prizes at the Grand Hotel in Torquay at a ceremony on Tuesday, January 8.

Best residential: Mr and Mrs J Baggott, of 24 Hartley Street, Paignton. Runner-up: Mr P Lamont, of Pear Tree House, Ilsham Road, Wellswood, Torquay.

Most imaginative: Mr and Mrs Gowens, of Serenity, 34 Ilsham Road, Torquay. Runner-up: Mrs Sally Langdon, of 151 Northfield Lane, Brixham.

Best illuminated street: Marlborough Avenue, Wellswood, Torquay. Runner-up: Ilsham Road, Torquay.

Best illuminated commercial street: Paignton town centre. Runner-up: Torquay town centre.

Best illuminated commercial village street: St Marychurch. Runner-up: Reddenhill Road, Babbacombe, Torquay.

Best commercial business: Maritime Inn, Kings Street, Brixham. Runner-up: Prince of Orange, Barton Hill Road, Torquay.

Best retail shop (outdoor display): Hoopers, The Strand, Torquay. Runner-up: Fleet Walk, Torquay.

Best retail shop window, (Torquay): Hoopers. Runner-up: The Candle Shop, Fleet Walk, Torquay.

Best retail shop (Paignton): Mark Bushby, Hyde Road, Paignton. Runner-up: The Linen Cupboard, Hyde Road, Paignton.

Best external hotel: Palace Hotel, Esplanade, Paignton. Runner-up: Livermead House Hotel, Torquay.

Best internal hotel: The Grand Hotel, Torquay. Runner-up: Headland Hotel, Daddyhole Road, Torquay.

Best harbour display: Brixham Harbour. Runner-up: Torquay harbour.

    Chuffed to recieve highly commended after only our second year (although first year at the house in Longstone Road) Was nice that it was well recieved by our neighbours too :-)
